Prep Work

The most important part of a tile floor installation is prepping the subfloor. If the subfloor is not prepared correctly, the tile could crack and buckle 1. Here are some steps to follow when prepping the subfloor for tile installation:

  1. Remove the old tile: Remove any old tile or flooring material from the subfloor. This will ensure that the new tile is installed on a clean and level surface 1.
  2. Install the tile membrane: A tile membrane is a waterproof barrier that is installed over the subfloor. It helps prevent moisture from seeping through the subfloor and damaging the tile 1.
  3. Mark the layout: Use chalk lines to mark the layout of the tile on the subfloor. This will help you ensure that the tile is installed in a straight line 1.
  4. Install the tile: Once the subfloor is prepped, you can begin installing the tile. Make sure to use the right tools and materials for the job 1.

It’s important to note that backerboard is also a key component of a long-lasting tile application. Backerboard is a thin material made from concrete and fiberglass mesh that creates a durable surface on which to lay tile
